Job Summary
The Ellison Medical Institute is seeking a talented and driven Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our dynamic research team. The primary focus is to develop and validate a cutting-edge novel ex vivo human liver model for investigating drug-induced liver injury. Leveraging non-transplantable human livers, the project aims to evaluate liver function, tissue architecture, and molecular responses to to drug exposure.

This innovative research will advance whole-organ technologies to assess hepatotoxicity, particularly in the context of targeted cancer therapies, and support the development of biomarker-based approaches to quantify liver function during chronic drug exposure. This position offers exceptional opportunities for scientific growth and the chance to contribute to high-impact, translational research.

This is a one year appointment, with the potential for extension based on research progress.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Development and Validation of Ex Vivo Human Liver ModelDesign, implement, and validate novel ex vivo human liver models using non-transplantable livers for studying drug-induced hepatotoxicity.
  • Perfusion ManagementManage and perform liver perfusions, including overnight and weekend shifts during active experimental periods, ensuring proper monitoring and maintenance of experimental conditions.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to liver function, architecture, and molecular changes in response to drug exposure
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design experiments, perform liver experiments, troubleshoot issues, and share findings through regular meetings and presentations.
  • Scientific Publication: Contribute to the publication of research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present results at relevant scientific conferences.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Work Schedule Flexibility: This role requires availability during overnight and weekend hours during active experimental periods. We are seeking candidates who are comfortable with a flexible schedule and can adapt to variable timing based on organ delivery logistics. This includes the ability to manage and monitor liver perfusions during late-night, overnight, and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Required Education: PhD and/or MD degree.
  • Required Experience: Prior laboratory experience with molecular/cellular biology, imaging, and histology techniques. Strong data analysis and statistical skills and familiarity with software such as R, Python, MATLAB, or GraphPad Prism. Knowledge of hepatic function and understanding of drug-induced hepatotoxicity mechanisms is preferred, but not required.
  • Required Field of Expertise: Medicine, molecular biology, bioengineering or related field.
For the safety and health of employees, guests, and patients, the Ellison Medical Institute may mandate vaccination requirements for employment. The Ellison Medical Institute's policies are always subject to review and change to ensure they are appropriate under the circumstances.

The Ellison Medical Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that an inclusive, collaborative team environment is just as important to our mission as stethoscopes and microscopes.
