Job Summary
The Ellison Medical Institute seeks a motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented LIMS/ELN Specialist to join our Lab Operations team. This position plays a hands-on role in supporting the seamless flow of scientific data and laboratory and compound inventory across the organization. The LIMS/ELN Specialist will support the integration, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), ensuring these platforms function reliably and efficiently for research teams. In addition, the position supports Institute-wide compound management, contributing to the accurate capture, organization, and handling of compounds through close collaboration with scientific staff.
This role is well suited for individuals with strong analytical and logical thinking who enjoy optimizing digital laboratory workflows and supporting researchers in a dynamic, fast-paced research environment.

System Administration & Integration:
- Administer, configure and maintain LIMS and ELN to ensure reliable and efficient operations.
- Design, implement, and optimize LIMS/ELN workflows and templates to support diverse research needs.
- Develop and implement system enhancements using APIs, rules engines, and webhooks to improve data integration and automation.
- Plan, execute, and validate software upgrades to ensure system performance, stability, and compliance.
- Integrate laboratory instruments and LIMS data with external databases and downstream data analysis pipelines.
- Provide end-user support, including account setup, training, documentation, and technical troubleshooting.
- Serve as a liaison between laboratory users, IT, and cross-functional teams to maintain data integrity and workflow continuity.
- Respond to user feedback and proactively identify opportunities to improve system usability and efficiency.
- Register, manage, and track compounds and samples within the LIMS.
- Maintain physical compound libraries, ensuring accurate labeling, storage, and organization.
- Monitor sample usage, inventory levels, and chain-of-custody records.
- Coordinate compound shipments, reformatting, aliquoting, and related logistics in collaboration with laboratory staff.
- Author, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to LIMS/ELN processes, compound management, and data governance.
- Ensure documentation aligns with institutional standards and supports reproducibility and data quality.
- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline.
- Required Experience: 0–2 years of relevant experience; prior laboratory experience is preferred.
- Required Skills:
- Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills, particularly for workflow design, data management, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated interest in laboratory informatics, automation, and system integration, with a curiosity for learning new technologies and improving scientific workflows.
- Familiarity with APIs, webhooks, databases, or data connectivity concepts.
- Coding experience in Python, JavaScript, and/or SQL is preferred.
- Experience with chemical inventory systems or compound management workflows (e.g., registration, barcoding, storage, plating, aliquoting, and sample tracking) is a plus.
- Customer service–oriented mindset with the ability to support and collaborate effectively with scientists and cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong sense of data accuracy, documentation quality, and process integrity.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, research-driven environment and handle multiple priorities.
