The Ellison Medical Institute is seeking a dynamic and strategic Manager, Communications to support impactful communication strategies that amplify the Institute’s mission and vision. In this pivotal role, you will assist in managing both internal and external communications, contribute to strategic initiatives, and ensure a consistent brand presence aligned with the Founding CEO’s vision. You will also support the Founding CEO’s media presence and outreach efforts, ensuring all communications align with the Institute’s goals and messaging.
The Manager, Communications will oversee daily operations and supervise staff, ensuring the seamless execution of communication activities that elevate the Institute’s reputation and visibility. - Communications Operations and Leadership:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of communications, managing assigned staff to ensure effective execution of activities.
- Contribute to the development of communications and external affairs goals, strategies, and objectives in alignment with the Institute’s mission and the Founding CEO’s vision.
- Media and Public Relations:
- Manage media relations and coordinate media contacts and onsite visits in collaboration with the CEO.
- Administer programs to raise awareness of the Institute’s offerings, services, and resources through channels such as direct mail, newsletters, publicity, community outreach, social media, and special events.
- Collaborate with internal teams to organize press conferences, special meetings, and events, ensuring clear messaging and proper materials. Write and edit documents for EMI, including press releases, articles, speeches, and technical reports.
- Content Creation and Brand Management:
- Develop, produce, and distribute marketing and public relations materials, such as promotional publications and branded content.
- Oversee the Institute's website and social media platforms, ensuring regular updates with relevant, engaging content that reflects the Institute’s voice.
- Support the maintenance of the Institute’s brand identity program, guiding internal and external stakeholders on proper use of brand standards and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Relations:
- Establish and maintain relationships with communication professionals, vendors, and media contacts, including artists, designers, photographers, and mailing services.
- Ensure coordination with stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of communications initiatives and events.
- Budget and Administrative Management:
- Research and prepare budget proposals for communications initiatives, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Administer and monitor the marketing budget, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines.
- Oversee the communications calendar, ensuring timely completion of projects and quality control throughout the process.
- Community and Outreach Engagement:
- Represent the Institute at community events and public forums, speaking on behalf of the organization as needed.
- Interpret technical or specialized content and produce accessible communication pieces for a broader audience.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the communications team and the broader objectives of the Institute.
- Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree journalism, marketing, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Required Experience: 5-7 years of experience in communications or public relations, with a focus on media relations, digital content, and brand management. They should have a proven track record of developing and executing communications strategies across multiple channels and managing a variety of communication projects. The candidate will also need strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences. Familiarity with communication tools such as social media platforms, email marketing, and content management systems is essential for success in this role.
- Required Expertise: The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record in media relations and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, familiarity with the healthcare and medical research landscape is a plus, allowing for a deeper understanding of the Institute’s work and helping to strengthen communication efforts.
